"abstract": "Objectives\n\nEpilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, posing significant challenges to patients' quality of life. Novel therapeutic agents are continuously sought to enhance seizure management. This study investigates the anticonvulsant potential of tolfenamic acid in a model of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced acute symptomatic seizures in male Wistar rats.Methods\n\nMale Wistar rats were administered tolfenamic acid prior to PTZ-induced seizure induction. The anticonvulsant effects were evaluated by assessing seizure onset, severity, and duration. Biochemical assays were performed to measure oxidative stress and inflammatory markers.Results\n\nTolfenamic acid treatment significantly delayed the onset of seizures and reduced both seizure severity and duration compared to the negative control group (p < 0.05). Biochemical analysis revealed a notable modulation of oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways in rats treated with tolfenamic acid, indicating its neuroprotective properties (p < 0.05).Conclusions\n\nThe findings demonstrate the significant anticonvulsant and neuroprotective properties of tolfenamic acid in a PTZ-induced seizure model. By delaying seizure onset, reducing severity and duration, and modulating oxidative stress and inflammation, tolfenamic acid shows promise as a potential therapeutic agent for seizure management. Additional clinical trials are necessary to confirm these results in human populations and to investigate the potential of tolfenamic acid as a new treatment for epilepsy and related disorders.",
