"abstract": "An assembly of FeRh nanocrystals, prepared by cluster deposition on the (001) surface of singlecrystal SrTiO 3 , was studied using grazing incidence X-ray diffraction. Their crystalline structure was determined, together with their relative orientation with respect to the surface lattice of SrTiO 3 . Upon in-situ annealing, chemical ordering in the B2 phase of FeRh is observed, accompanied by an increase of the crystal typical size up to around 20 nm. Similarly to the equivalent system of nanoparticles deposited on a BaTiO 3 epitaxial thin film, we observe the unusual cube-on-cube epitaxy relationship in addition to the well-known orientation met for FeRh thin films. However, besides these FeRh nanocrystals with a cube-on-cube epitaxy, corresponding to a {100} facet in contact with the SrTiO 3 surface, we clearly detect high intensity peaks in the surface reciprocal space map, reflecting other favorable orientations. We show how these peaks can be attributed to FeRh particles lying on a {110} facet, with specific orientations in the surface plane which are the signatures of a particular coincidence between the SrTiO 3 and FeRh crystal lattices. A monoclinic deformation of the FeRh crystal cell is detected for these particles lying on a {110} facet, where the interplanar distances are found to be slightly reduced in the direction perpendicular to the interface. Other orientations with particles lying on a {210} or {211} facet are also detected, remaining in a minor proportion. This experimental evidence of multiple epitaxial relationships confirms the specific behavior of nanoscale FeRh particles on perovskite surfaces, and should affect the electronic or magnetic properties of this hybrid nano-system.",
