  "abstract": "Let $\\DD$ be $\\R$, $\\C$, or $\\HH$, and let $H=\\GL_p(\\DD)\\times\\GL_q(\\DD)$ be the block diagonal subgroup of $G=\\GL_{p+q}(\\DD)$. We prove that $\\dim\\Hom_H(π,η)\\leq1$ for every irreducible Casselman--Wallach representation $π$ of $G$ and every smooth character $η$ of $H$.",
