"abstract": "The field-induced transition of metallic granular media from an insulating to a conductive state, known as the Branly effect, presents a quantified energy deficit. A stress-dependent thermodynamic baseline, established from direct-current sweeps on oxidized copper, reveals that Ohmic heating cannot drive dielectric breakdown under pulsed regimes. An analytical electro-inductive model shows that this transition is governed by Faraday self-induction, originating from the network’s intrinsic percolative inductance. Validated in situ under Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) conditions, the model predicts the order of magnitude of the observed millisecond electrical transitions. The resulting localized currents trigger a magnetohydrodynamic Z-pinch instability. Macroscopic mechanical loading determines the microstructural outcome, converting droplet splashing into localized radial extrusion. By bridging macroscopic powder metallurgy and the sub-nanosecond electroforming of neuromorphic memristors, this electro-inductive framework yields a geometric and percolative scaling law that serves as a predictive design tool for interface engineering across 16 frequency decades.",
