"abstract": "CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals are promising semiconductors for numerous optoelectronic applications due to their high quantum yield and impressive tunability. Most recently, one-dimensional perovskite nanorods and nanowires have attracted attention for their advanced luminescence properties such as light polarization and lasing. Such applications require precise morphological and surface chemistry control, both of which are difficult to obtain using conventional synthesis pathways. A novel approach is to use preformed lead halide clusters as nucleation sites, decoupling nucleation and growth to lower dispersity. In this work, we utilize preformed PbBr 2 clusters in 1-octadecene as precursors for anisotropic growth of CsPbBr 3 nanorods. Using in situ UV-Vis absorbance and photoluminescence spectroscopies, we monitored the different morphologies and phases formed during the growth of CsPbBr 3 . We investigate the impact of the solvent on precursor chemistry, final nanorod structure, as well as the growth pathway to reach those structures. Our results show that for growth occurring in toluene, the lead halide precursors are isolated octahedra favoring a classical diffusion mechanism and nanorods with less defined width. When the reaction occurs in 1-octadecene, the precursors form preassembled monolayers, promoting oriented assembly and giving rise to distinct, coexisting, two and three monolayer thick nanorods. Sequential crystallization of Cs 4 PbBr 6 was observed in toluene because of the increasing ligand concentration during nanorod growth. Cs 4 PbBr 6 crystals could then be converted into two monolayer thick nanorods through the addition of a small volume of ethanol. These results shed light on the importance of solvent choice on lead precursor chemistry to obtain homogeneous size-controlled nanorods.",
