  "abstract": "The present study aimed to describe the woodfuel marketing system in Brazzaville. A survey was conducted among 104 woodfuel traders operating in the municipal markets of Brazzaville. It was complemented by a measurement phase of the woodfuel selling units. The results indicated that the woodfuel trade (charcoal and firewood) was dominated by women (85%), most of whom were adults living with a partner. The literacy rate among traders remained very high 95% for charcoal traders and 92% for firewood traders. The woodfuel sold in Brazzaville mainly originated from the districts of Goma Tsé-Tsé and Kinkala (Pool Department), which together supplied 75% of the charcoal and 83% of the firewood sold in the city. The findings also showed that woodfuel marketing was a profitable activity, as traders recorded positive Gross Operating Incomes (GOI) as well as Annual Revenues (AR). The income generated from this activity helped supplement household earnings and meet basic needs. Therefore, strategies for sustainable management of woodfuel resources around Brazzaville are urgently needed.",
