"abstract": "The rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) necessitates the development of sustainable and efficient alternatives to traditional antibiotics. Here, we report the design and characterization of hybrid photoactive nanomaterials composed of porphyrin-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) embedded in an acetylated lignin (AcLi) matrix. These materials leverage the photodynamic properties of porphyrins to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly singlet oxygen (¹O₂), under light irradiation, enabling their use in Photodynamic Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (PACT). The core-shell (γ-Fe₂O₃ - SiO₂) MNPs, were functionalized with azide (N₃) or aldehyde (CHO) groups to covalently graft alkyne- or amino-substituted porphyrins via click chemistry or reductive amination. The resulting hybrid materials (MNP@N3@Porph, MNP@CHO@Porph, and MNP@N3@Lignol) were thoroughly characterized using HR-TEM, UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and EPR, confirming the successful immobilization of porphyrins and their ability to produce ¹O₂. Biological validation against Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated the spontaneous interaction of the nanoparticles with bacterial cells, a critical feature for PACT efficacy. Additionally, the magnetic properties of the MNPs enable easy recovery and recyclability, addressing a key challenge in photocatalytic systems.",
