"abstract": "Background: Achieving adequate bond strength between aged and new composite restorations remains a significant challenge in dental practice. Effective surface preparation methods are critical to enhancing the shear bond strength of repaired composite restorations, ensuring durability and clinical success. This study aimed to evaluate various surface preparation techniques and compare the effects of mechanical and chemical treatments on shear bond strength. Materials and Methods: This in vitro experimental study was conducted on seventy microhybrid composite samples (Denfil, A2) were prepared, aged through water immersion and thermocycling, and randomly divided into seven groups based on surface treatment: Group 1 (bur), Group 2 (bur + acid etching), Group 3 (bur + acid etching + silane), Group 4 (sandblasting), Group 5 (sandblasting + acid etching), Group 6 (sandblasting + acid etching + silane), and Group 7 (control, no treatment). A new composite layer was bonded to each treated surface, and shear bond strength was measured. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test for pairwise comparisons, with the level of statistical significance set at P < 0.05. Results: All treated groups demonstrated higher bond strength than the control. Group 6 exhibited the highest mean bond strength (22.64 MPa), achieved through the combination of sandblasting, acid etching, silane, and bonding. Group 1 (bur only) showed the lowest bond strength (16.23 MPa). Significant differences were observed among groups, highlighting the superiority of combined mechanical and chemical surface treatments. Conclusion: Surface preparation significantly enhances the bond strength of repaired composite restorations. The combination of sandblasting, acid etching, silane application, and bonding yielded the most favorable results, representing an effective approach to improving restoration durability.",
