"abstract": "Contemporary psychology provides well-developed accounts of framing, memory accessibility, salience, cognitive control, fixation, flexibility, and stabilisation. However, their functional integration during the formation and persistence of a cognitive pathway remains less clearly specified. This paper proposes a systems-level architecture in which cognition is understood as the currently active configuration of functional relationships within a highly interactive system. The current frame of mind represents this wider configuration, within which deployment profiles regulate the relative weighting and organisation of cognitive processes and capacities, memory access remains selective and state-dependent, and available information acquires differential functional prominence through salience. Candidate pathways are evaluated against current constraints and may become progressively stabilised, while feedback, changing conditions, closure modulation, and hysteretic dynamics can reinforce, modify, or reopen the developing state. The architecture distinguishes what is represented within the wider memory landscape from what becomes functionally accessible and subsequently salient, while treating stabilisation, closure, and reopening as dynamically related rather than as discrete terminal stages. Its contribution lies in specifying how interactions among these functions can generate qualitatively different outcomes, including efficient commitment, fixation, cognitive reorganisation, insight, persistence, and reopening. It therefore provides an analytical representation of a recursive, history-dependent system and generates testable questions concerning how cognitive pathways become accessible, influential, evaluated, sustained, revised, or reopened.",
