"abstract": "This study investigates the concentration-dependent grain size evolution of octadecylamine hydrochloride (ODA·HCl), a commonly used cationic collector in potassium chloride flotation. FTIR and XPS spectroscopy were employed to analyze the adsorption states and interaction mechanisms of ODA on KCl surfaces under static equilibrium adsorption and dynamic flotation conditions. The results showed that: (1) the ODA·HCl flocculation revealed a pronounced concentration-driven evolution of grain size, and become smaller and more uniform when the concentration of ODA·HCl approaches that of actual flotation (1 × 10⁻² mol L⁻¹); (2) FTIR analysis confirmed the successful adsorption of ODA·HCl onto KCl surfaces, and the adsorption under dynamic flotation conditions exhibited a non-linear dependence on concentration; (3) XPS verified that ODA·HCl attaches to the KCl surface via a synergistic mechanism involving electrostatic attraction, partial deprotonation, and hydrogen bonding, without disrupting the KCl crystal structure. Taking into account grain size, adsorption behavior, flotation performance, and KCl dissolution loss in the mother liquor, the optimal collector concentration is proposed to lie within 1.0 × 10⁻² to 1.6 × 10⁻² mol L⁻¹. This range achieves a high recovery (>94%), a narrow grain size distribution, low reagent consumption, and minimal potassium salt dissolution loss, providing both a theoretical basis and practical guidance for optimizing the potash flotation process.",
