"abstract": "ObjectiveShendong Coal Mine is a typical semi-arid open-pit coal mining area. The exploitation and utilization of mineral resources in this area are prone to causing damage to soil resources. Land reclamation is a key measure for ecological restoration in the mining area. Therefore, it is of great significance to explore and select the reclamation type that is more conducive to the restoration of soil quality in semi-arid mining areas. MethodsTaking the bare land, cultivated land, grassland, and forestland of different reclamation types in the open-pit mining area of Shendong Mining District as the research objects, the particle size composition, physical, nutrient, and microbial property indicators of each soil were determined, and the significant differences in indicators among the soils were analyzed and compared. Then, the entropy weight TOPSIS method was used to comprehensively evaluate the quality of each soil, and the reclamation type with better quality was selected. Results1) After reclamation of the mining area, the content of sand particles larger than 0.1 mm in cultivated land, grassland, and forestland was significantly lower than that in bare land (P < 0.05), while the contents of silt and clay particles increased significantly. Among them, the content of silt particles in forestland was the highest, and the improvement effect on the particle size composition was remarkable. 2) The total porosity of cultivated land and grassland was significantly lower than that of bare land, while the soil bulk density significantly increased. The soil moisture content in forestland was the highest, and the fractal dimension was significantly higher than that of bare land, while the saturated hydraulic conductivity was significantly lower. 3) After land reclamation, the soil nutrient contents were significantly improved compared to bare land. Among them, the contents of organic matter, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, and available potassium in cultivated land were the highest, while the content of available phosphorus in forestland was the highest. 4) Except for protease activity, the microbial indicators of all types of soil were significantly higher than those of bare land. Among them, the soil respiration intensity, microbial carbon, and catalase activity in forestland were the highest, significantly greater than those in cultivated land and grassland. The phosphatase activity in grassland and forestland was significantly greater than that in cultivated land. All types showed consistent improvement effects on urease activity. 5) The comprehensive evaluation results of soil quality were forestland > cultivated land > grassland > bare land. ConclusionsThe soil quality of forestland and cultivated land types is excellent. They can be combined with local needs as the preferred types for land reclamation and ecological restoration in semi-arid mining areas.",
