"abstract": "Incorporating photoactive fragments into polymers is a key strategy for designing nextgeneration photochromic materials. Here, new methacrylic polymers containing styrylquinoline fragments were successfully synthesized and characterized. We investigated their nonlinear optical (NLO) properties in thin films, focusing on secondand third-harmonic generation (SHG/THG). Corona poling effectively aligned the chromophores, significantly enhancing second-order NLO activity. UV irradiation induced trans-cis photoisomerization and charge transfer, prompting distinct shifts in absorption and photoluminescence spectra that reflect alterations in electronic states. GAUSSIAN 09 calculations revealed that a narrower HOMO-LUMO gap particularly in polymers with electron-donating substituents correlates directly with enhanced NLO performance. Furthermore, photoisomerization markedly influenced THG responses. Demonstrating a strong interplay between molecular structure, charge transfer dynamics, and optical performance, these styrylquinoline-based polymers show outstanding potential for advanced optical, electro-optical, and photonic systems.",
