Equivariant Ehrhart series for rational simplices and rational cross-polytopes
Abstract
Equivariant Ehrhart theory was introduced by Stapledon (2011) and has since been extensively studied. A central question is whether the numerator in a certain rational function expression for the equivariant Ehrhart series is both a polynomial and effective. In this paper, we propose a modification of the denominator in the rational function expression for the equivariant Ehrhart series of rational polytopes. For rational simplices and rational cross-polytopes whose vertices have coordinates that are reciprocals of integers, we show that the resulting numerator is a polynomial and is effective. As an application of our results, we compute the equivariant series of the characteristic quasi-polynomials of root systems.
