Abstract
Background: surgical site infections (SSIs) remain a significant cause of postoperative morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and increased healthcare costs. Despite advances in aseptic techniques and antibiotic prophylaxis, SSIs contribute to patient suffering, readmissions, and even mortality. In response, evidence-based SSI prevention bundles have been developed, integrating multiple best practices. Aim: The study aimed to assess nurses’ knowledge and practice regarding surgical site infection prevention bundle. Design: A descriptive research design was utilized in this study. Setting: The study was conducted at the Operation rooms at Qaliup Specialized Hospital affiliated to Ministry of Health and Population. Sampling: All available nurses is working at the pervious mentioned setting. Furthermore the number of nurses 60. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used, (I): An interviewing questionnaire was used and composed of two parts, A: Nurses’ demographic characteristics. B: Nurses’ (preoperative-intraoperative-postoperative) level of knowledge, II: Nurse’s practice observational checklist. Results: only less than quarter of studied nurses achieved the satisfactory level of total knowledge, and more than half of them achieved the competency level of total practice Conclusion: There was no statistically significance indicated a negative correlation between knowledge and practice regarding surgical sit infection prevention bundle among studied nurses. Recommendations: Nurses should attend updated conferences and in-service training program/or workshops, about infection control especially surgical site infections.
