Synthesis of C1-quaternary 1-(α-methylbenzylamino)cyclobutane derivatives
Abstract
A small panel of non-racemic 1-(α-methylbenzylamino)cyclobutanes bearing one-carbon functional groups at C1 of the cyclobutane ring was targeted. Successful synthetic procedures were established to access the target molecules, with the exception of the C1-formyl derivative whose electrophilicity was incompatible with the free secondary amine. When a C1 nucleofugal group was generated, cyclization occurred leading to a novel spiroaziridine derivative.
