Uniqueness of twisted linear periods over Archimedean division algebras

Abstract

Let DD be R, C, or HH, and let H=GLp(DD)×GLq(DD) be the block diagonal subgroup of G=GLp+q(DD). We prove that dimHomH(π,η)≤1 for every irreducible Casselman--Wallach representation π of G and every smooth character η of H.
