Biodiversité domestique : quand les valeurs s'en mêlent

Abstract

Understanding why and how farmers choose a particular genetic type and what practices they implement is a central question in research on domestic biodiversity. However, what farmers value is closely intertwined with these practices and choices. This paper aims to recount a journey that led researchers to take an interest in the question of the formation of values around domestic biodiversity, and to present a diversity of investigations conducted through this lens. This work mobilizes different methodologies, from surveys to participatory workshops, including the use of video to promote the explanation of practices. It concerns different relationships between humans and animal and plant populations. The diversity of values expressed and the associated practices of seeking balance and compromise are discussed, as well as the challenges of designing collective valuation systems
