Abstract

On the basis of interest and speculation in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology, curiosity towards innovating different method of synthesis grabs attention. In this regard, the green synthesis method has distinct advantages because it utilizes natural products and abundant substances from nature. Synthesizing metallic nanoparticles using plant-based products is generally cost-effective, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. Based on this premise, a new and innovative method of silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) synthesis has been reported herein. Precisely, AgNPs have been synthesised in Aloe vera (AV) gel by chemical reduction method, when a thin film of AV containing Ag NPs resulted, hereinafter referred to as AVAg film. The AVAg film has been characterised by different analytical techniques, such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Further, the utility of the synthesized Ag NPs was demonstrated by spectrophotometric studies, involving redox reaction considering the decomposition of permanganate ion (MnO4 -), on one hand, and as a reusable catalyst for the reduction of p-nitrophenol (p-NP), on the other.
