Abstract

Hydroxyurea derivatives have important medicinal utility acting as enzyme inhibitors and anticancer agents. Their syntheses have, however, entailed low yielding routes employing long reaction times and toxic reagents such as phosgene. Towards sustainable and environmentally benign hydroxyurea synthesis, a one-step hydroxycarbamoylation approach is described employing resonant acoustic mixing (RAM) to expedite reactions at higher concentration. Eighteen medicinally relevant hydroxyurea were synthesized in 68-91% yields using ethanol as green solvent.
