Parametric Enhancement of an Optical Spring in a Dark Signal-Recycling Cavity
Abstract
Optical springs tailor the response of precision sensors. Parametric amplification of the signal field stiffens the spring, extending the precision to higher frequencies. A Michelson interferometer operated at a dark fringe is the most direct way to separate the signal from the carrier for amplification. We experimentally demonstrate such quantum manipulation of the optical spring by placing an optical parametric amplifier in a cavity at the dark port, showing a significant increase of the optical-spring constant with the parametric gain within a factor of four below the oscillation threshold.
