π΅-stable and selfless inclusions for the infinite braid group
Abstract
Let Bβ be the braid group on infinitely many strands and Pβ its pure braid group. We show that C*r(Pβ)β C*r(Bβ) and all its intermediate inclusions are π΅-stable and completely selfless. This gives natural examples of simple nonnuclear π΅-stable C*-algebras. Further examples come from SLβ(β€) and GLβ(β€). We also show that C*r(π½β)β C*r(Bβ) is completely selfless for the free group π½β of braids in which only the first strand moves. All results hold for twisted group C*-algebras. In contrast, π΅-stability fails for Bn with n finite and for groups that are not inner amenable.
