Influence of positional isomerism and connector nature on the optical properties of benzothiadiazole-based push-pull chromophores

Abstract

This study reports a systematic investigation of the optical properties of a family of push-pull chromophores based on a 3-substituted indazole as the donor moiety and a benzothiadiazole motif as the acceptor, in which the nature of the connector (-system) and the positional isomerism of the benzothiadiazole unit were varied. It is focused on how these subtle structural modifications influence the optical properties—including solvatochromism, fluorescence, and singlet oxygen generation quantum yields. Ultimately, these compounds were evaluated in live-cell imaging, demonstrating their potential as versatile platforms for the development of bioprobes.
