Enhanced shortcuts to adiabaticity in an interacting giant-atom-atomic-waveguide system

Abstract

In realistic quantum systems, isolated few-level models usually provide only an approximate description, since the controlled subsystem is generally coupled to additional degrees of freedom. As a result, a quantum control scheme designed for an isolated system may lose its original performance in a more complex coupled setting. Here, we consider a giant atom coupled to an interacting atomic waveguide and investigate enhanced shortcuts to adiabaticity (eSTA) in such a structured system. As a first step, a weak-coupling perturbative analysis identifies how changes in the initial and target states, together with dynamical transitions, contribute to the fidelity loss. Starting from a shortcut to adiabaticity control scheme for the uncoupled system, the enhanced STA correction improves the final fidelity by modifying only the giant-atom control fields. This improvement is found for both periodic and open boundary conditions of the atomic waveguide. The results demonstrate a way to design an eSTA protocol for an interacting composite system.
