Abstract

Perovskite manganites, specifically LaMnO₃, emerge as promising candidates for multiferroic and multifunctional devices arising from charge, spin, lattice coupling interplay. Herein, we present B-site vanadium substitution, La(Mn1-x V x )O₃ (x = 0-0.05, sol-gel synthesized) as an effective route for tuning these properties. XRD demonstrates dominant trigonal R3̄c phase with minor V₂O₃/La₂O₃ secondary phases at V-loading above 1%, while unit cell volume shows sharp expansion at low doping levels before saturating. V-substitution induces a progressive blue shift in the absorption edge, with band gap increases (from 0.768 to 0.886 eV) via bandwidth narrowing and a Burstein-Moss-type effect, and drives a 13-fold enhancement in dielectric constant through Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars interfacial polarization. Magnetically an enhancement in room-temperature ferromagnetism was attained with saturation magnetization reaching 3.52 emu g⁻¹ (LMV5) and coercivity peaking at LMV3 (140% increase over the pristine LaMnO₃). These results establish vanadium as a versatile dopant for engineering multifunctional manganites.
