When EMDR and dramatherapy meet: A trauma-focused therapeutic encounter
- 1Independent Practitioner
Abstract
This article reflects on the synergistic potential of integrating dramatherapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in trauma treatment. As a practitioner trained in both modalities, the author notes that EMDR’s structured neurophysiological desensitization can lack creative integration, while dramatherapy’s rich symbolic expression often requires targeted neurological stabilization. Through a brief clinical case study, the author shows the integration of these methods, offering a holistic, dual-brain approach that overcomes individual modality limitations to enhance therapeutic effectiveness in daily practice.
