Abstract
Objective To investigate the serum levels of thrombospondin-1(TSP-1),S100 calcium-binding protein B(S100B),and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),as well as their correlations,in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods Sixty-one patients with acute cerebral infarction who were admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between January 2022 and September 2022,had an onset-to-admission time of less than 72 h,and had not received intravenous thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy were enrolled as the case group. Forty healthy individuals undergoing physical examinations during the same period were enrolled as the control group. Serum TSP - 1,S100B,and TNF - α levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. According to their National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)scores, patients in the case group were further divided into mild-subgroup(1-4 points),moderate-subgroup(5-15 points),and severe-subgroup(≥16 points),and the differences of these indicators among the subgroups were compared. Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to assess the correlations of TSP - 1 with S100B and TNF -α. Results Serum TSP - 1[271.56(187.42,432.46)ng/mL],S100B[(743.61±152.60)pg/mL],and TNF-α[(36.54±7.48)pg/mL]levels were significantly higher in the case group than those in the control group[92.60(84.38,116.80)ng/mL,(369.79±112.18)pg/mL,and(20.13±6.88)pg/mL,respectively],with statistically significant differences between the two groups(P<0.01). With increasing NIHSS scores, serum TSP-1,S100B,and TNF- α levels showed a graded increasing trend from the mild-subgroup to the moderate-subgroup and then to the severe-subgroup; the differences between any two subgroups were statistically significant(P<0.05). Spearman correlation analysis showed that serum TSP-1 levels were positively correlated with S100B and TNF-α levels in patients with acute cerebral infarction,respectively(r=0.469,0.474,P<0.01). No significant correlations among the three biomarkers were observed in the control group(P>0.05). Conclusion Serum TSP-1,S100B,and TNF-α levels are significantly elevated in patients with acute cerebral infarction during the early stage, and are positively associated with the severity of neurological impairment. The significant positive correlations of TSP-1 with S100B and TNF-α suggest that TSP - 1 may play an important role in the pathological process of acute cerebral infarction by participating in neuroinflammatory regulation and may be served as a potential biomarker for assessing the severity of cerebral infarction.
