An infinite sequence of higher order Ehrenfest transitions in a one-dimensional crystal
Abstract
Higher-order Ehrenfest phase transitions are exceptionally rare and poorly understood. We present an exactly solvable one-dimensional model exhibiting a sequence of Ehrenfest transitions of arbitrary n≥2 order. These transitions occur without symmetry breaking and even the second-order transition lacks conventional critical behavior, although the density derivative of the correlation length diverges. Our results reveal a distinct class of noncritical phase transitions and help clarify the scope of the Ehrenfest classification.
