Quelques enseignements et réflexions au sujet de la visite de la carrière de Cormeilles-en-Parisis

Abstract

The gypsum quarry located in Cormeilles-en-Parisis, in the surroundings of Paris, has been exploited by craftmen, and later industrially, since the beginning of the XIXth century till now. It stands among the last spots in that category close to the French capital. The transition to underground mining and the filling of the open air spaces provided recently to the musée du Plâtre the opportunity to launch an inquiry about the scientific and pedagogical approach of this place of high interest. This study displays the central part taken by the Cormeilles quarry in the study and teaching of the Bassin de Paris from a geological point of view.
