Investigating Stellar Limb-darkening Laws Using the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer Data Archive

Abstract

The gradual decrease in intensity from a star’s center to its edge is known as limb darkening, and it acts as a critical diagnostic for understanding stellar atmospheres. This paper takes a collection of previously published stars from the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer data archive to evaluate the performance of several limb darkening laws (linear, quadratic, power-4, pure power) and multiple models (ATLAS, Stagger, Phoenix, Phoenix NewEra). We present a catalog with our results, and compare the minimum and maximum limb-darkened angular diameters from the fits.
