Elliptic Superlevel Sets in the Class OOC: Boundary-Layer Geometry and Stability of the Return Map

Abstract

We study elliptic superlevel geometry and return dynamics for the class π’ͺC. Let C βŠ‚ ℝN be a compact strictly convex core, and Ω∈ π’ͺC a bounded domain whose boundary is a global normal graph over βˆ‚ C with inward normals returning to int C. For βˆ’Ξ”u = f in Ξ© (u=0 on βˆ‚Ξ©), with f β‰₯ 0, f not≑ 0, supp f Subset int C, we analyze the superlevel sets Ξ©t = {u > t} for t ↓ 0. We prove that for small t > 0, βˆ‚Ξ©t is a global normal graph given by βˆ‚Ξ©t = {c + dt(c)Ξ½(c) : c ∈ βˆ‚ C}, satisfying |dt βˆ’ d0|C1 = O(t) and dt = d0 βˆ’ t b0 + oC1(t), where b0 depends on the Hopf derivative and transversality. Using normal-graph formulas, we show Ξ©t ∈ π’ͺC. The return maps Ft : βˆ‚ C β†’ βˆ‚ C are well-defined, satisfying |Ft βˆ’ F0|L∞ = O(t) and Ft = F0 + t π’œ0 + oL∞(t). For any sequence tn ↓ 0, the non-autonomous system xn+1 = Ftn(xn) is asymptotically autonomous with background map F0. These results bridge elliptic boundary-layer deformation and return-map dynamics relative to a convex core.

AB - We study elliptic superlevel geometry and return dynamics for the class π’ͺ_C. Let C βŠ‚ ℝ^N be a compact strictly convex core, and Ω∈ π’ͺ_C a bounded domain whose boundary is a global normal graph over βˆ‚ C with inward normals returning to int C. For βˆ’Ξ”u = f in Ξ© (u=0 on βˆ‚Ξ©), with f β‰₯ 0, f not≑ 0, supp f Subset int C, we analyze the superlevel sets Ξ©_t = {u > t} for t ↓ 0. We prove that for small t > 0, βˆ‚Ξ©_t is a global normal graph given by βˆ‚Ξ©_t = {c + d_t(c)Ξ½(c) : c ∈ βˆ‚ C}, satisfying |d_t βˆ’ d_0|_C^1 = O(t) and d_t = d_0 βˆ’ t b_0 + o_C^1(t), where b_0 depends on the Hopf derivative and transversality. Using normal-graph formulas, we show Ξ©_t ∈ π’ͺ_C. The return maps F_t : βˆ‚ C β†’ βˆ‚ C are well-defined, satisfying |F_t βˆ’ F_0|_L^∞ = O(t) and F_t = F_0 + t π’œ_0 + o_L^∞(t). For any sequence t_n ↓ 0, the non-autonomous system x_n+1 = F_t_n(x_n) is asymptotically autonomous with background map F_0. These results bridge elliptic boundary-layer deformation and return-map dynamics relative to a convex core.
