Photocatalysis‐Triggered Click Reactions and Applications

Abstract

Photoclick chemistry is a wide field of research which provides many different applications from materials science to bioconjugation. This concept enables a spatiotemporal control over the click reaction. Initially developed in UV by direct absorption of the clickable partner, new developments have recently emerged in visible to NIR (Near Infrared) domain thanks to photocatalytic process. In these systems, the reaction selectivity is governed by the photocatalyst, whose design must be carefully tailored to the intended application. This review provides an overview of photocatalysis‐triggered click reactions, highlighting the fundamental mechanistic principles underlying these transformations and discussing recent advances as well as emerging applications across diverse research fields.
