FCC-μe: High Energy, High Luminosity Muon-Electron Collider & Neutrino Factory at CERN
Abstract
The concept is presented of making at the FCC-ee (or CEPC) facility μ+e- collisions at the centre-of-mass energy between 1 and 2 TeV and the average luminosity above 1034cm−2s−1, concurrently to the e+e- collisions. First, a concise scientific motivation is given, including the exciting prospect of measurements of the Higgs boson self-interaction, and is followed by a presentation of the FCC-μe layout -- from the source of ultra-cold anti-muons, through the muon booster, to the main muon ring. Basic considerations are also given regarding the machine-detector interface and the performance of the FCC-μe and associated neutrino factory. The paper concludes with an outlook underlying relevance of such anti-muon beams for any future high energy storage ring as well as for neutrino science.
