Optical conductivity of holographic striped superconductors
Abstract
Based on a holographic model exhibiting Mott-like insulating behavior on an ionic lattice, we construct a holographic striped superconductor (SSC), which is characterized by the interplay between the charge density wave (CDW) and superconductivity (SC). We present the phase diagram on the e-T plane, where the SSC phase emerges within an intermediate window of e, revealing both cooperative and competitive relations between the CDW order and SC order. For small charge e, the system undergoes the phase transition from metallic phase to CDW phase, and then to SSC phase upon cooling; while for large e, it transitions from metallic phase to SC phase directly, and then to SSC phase. We compute the optical conductivity of the system for these two cases and demonstrate its distinct behavior. It turns out that the imaginary part of the conductivity exhibits a divergent behavior below the critical temperature TSSC along both pathways, so that the superconductivity of SSC phase is justified for the first time in the holographic framework. Along the CDW-to-SSC pathway the pseudogap and the pinning effect are inherited from the CDW phase, whereas along the SC-to-SSC pathway the spontaneous stripe strongly suppresses the coherent normal-fluid channel while the superfluid pole is enhanced. In addition, we demonstrate the commensurate lock-in behavior of the striped superconductor in the p-T diagram.
