Resonant transmission of scalar waves through rotating traversable wormhole
Abstract
The viability of traversable wormholes as exotic compact objects relies on identifying signatures that distinguish them from black holes and other compact objects. In this work, we investigate the propagation of a massless scalar field in a rotating traversable wormhole described by Teo's class of solutions. We compute the greybody factor (transmissivity) and identify sharp Breit-Wigner-type resonances associated with scalar modes trapped in the potential well surrounding the throat. Rotation modifies these resonances through frame dragging, with counter rotating modes developing deeper trapping wells. We further investigate the stability of the long lived resonant modes through their quasinormal mode spectrum and find that corotating modes exhibit ergoregion instability. We therefore focus on the partial transmission cross section of the stable counter rotating modes, which characterizes the resonant transmission of incident scalar flux through the wormhole to the other asymptotic region. Our findings establish the role of rotation and mode stability in shaping the resonant transmission of scalar waves through traversable wormholes, providing a basis for future studies of analogous resonant phenomena in electromagnetic and gravitational waves, and their potential observational implications.
