Improved interfacial-bonding strength and electronic structure properties of graphene-reinforced Al composites by Cu coating.

Abstract

Cu-coated graphene-reinforced aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) are studied using first-principles calculations. Using Cu-coated graphene, the reinforced AMCs exhibit 1.5 times stronger interfacial bonding than the non-Cu-coated derivative due to hybridization between the 3d orbital of Cu and π orbital of graphene. Our work provides atomic insight into improved interfacial-bonding strength and electronic structure properties of graphene-reinforced AMCs by Cu-coating.
