Abstract
In situ growth of Mn₂O₃ on the surface of the iron mesh was performed hydrothermally to prepare novel catalysts with enhanced toluene oxidation performance. The effect of exposed crystal planes of catalysts, regulated by manganese concentration, on the catalytic performance of toluene oxidation was systematically studied using various characterization techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman, H₂-TPR, and XPS. The 1.2MnO x /IM catalyst exhibited superior toluene oxidation performance, attributed to Mn₂O₃ (111)- facet-induced synergistic effects between its super-low-temperature oxidation capability and abundant oxygen vacancies. DFT calculations indicated that the catalyst with an exposed Mn₂O₃ (111) crystal plane has stronger toluene/O₂ adsorption and weaker CO₂ adsorption, demonstrating its excellent catalytic activity and stability. The work opens an exploration of the role of the crystal plane in monolithic catalysts and provides a theoretical basis for monolithic catalysts for VOC oxidation.
