Transversal syndrome extraction: A unifying construction for measuring the error syndromes of any stabilizer code
Abstract
Fault-tolerant syndrome extraction is fundamental to stabilizer-code-based quantum error correction, yet existing general protocols incur substantial costs in either circuit depth or width. In this work, we design ancilla stabilizer states for a general transversal circuit to construct a family of fault-tolerant syndrome-extraction gadgets that interpolate between Shor and Steane syndrome extraction for any stabilizer code. The result is a configurable trade-off between circuit depth and width.
