New larval host plants for a few Indian butterflies (Lepidoptera: Rhopalocera)

Abstract

The present communication reports new larval host plants for four Indian Butterflies. Based on field surveys and rearing experiments, Crateva adansonii DC., Lepidium didymum L., and Barleria cristata L. were established as larval host plants of Belenois aurota (Fabricius, 1793), Pieris canidia (Linnaeus, 1768), and Junonia orithya (Linnaeus, 1758) respectively; and Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre. and Bauhinia racemosa Lam. as larval host plants for Leptotes plinius (Fabricius, 1793).
