Interface‐Engineered Binary Framework Composites: Advancing Porous Materials for Precision Medicine
Abstract
Interface‐engineered binary framework composites integrate complementary porous materials to create synergistic properties that exceed the performance of individual frameworks. Precise control of interfacial chemistry transforms framework junctions into functional domains with unique catalytic, mechanical, and stimulus‐responsive activity. Emerging designs demonstrate quantum‐confined catalytic sites, orthogonal response pathways for multiplexed biosensing, mechano‐selective activation for tissue‐specific therapy, and hierarchical assemblies that emulate biological organization. These capabilities enable targeted drug delivery, adaptive tissue engineering, and real‐time biosensing by executing complex therapeutic functions with bioorthogonal precision. While challenges in scalable synthesis and regulatory translation remain, advances in interface engineering are rapidly positioning binary framework composites as a platform technology for next‐generation precision medicine. This review highlights the fundamental design principles, cutting‐edge applications, and translational opportunities of binary framework composites, while outlining the key scientific and technological challenges that must be addressed to accelerate their clinical impact.
