Abstract

We report a primary helical nanographene terminally functionalized with 4-cyanophenyl groups. This terminal substitution dictates columnar solid-state assembly and selectively stabilizes frontier orbitals deriving narrow HOMO–LUMO gap. It also induces redshifted absorption and amplifies circular dichroism via transition moment density redistribution, providing rational design principles for helical π-systems.
