Brownian gyrator model with stochastic resetting

Abstract

The Brownian gyrator (BG) model provides a minimal yet experimentally relevant example of a system operating far from thermodynamic equilibrium, sustaining steady currents with nonzero vorticity and exhibiting stochastic rotational motion along elliptical orbits. In this paper, we study the response of the BG to a fundamentally non-equilibrium perturbation -- stochastic resetting at a constant rate -- either to a fixed point in the plane or to a randomly selected point on a circle. We determine analytically and numerically the steady-state position probability density function (PDF), together with its marginals and moments, which exhibit a resetting-induced non-monotonic dependence on the resetting rate. We also characterize the associated local probability currents and vorticity fields. Furthermore, we investigate the dependence of the mean angular momentum and mean angular velocity on the resetting rate, and numerically analyze the PDFs of these observables. This analysis fully quantifies the complex behavior arising from the competition between two non-equilibrium mechanisms with distinct spatial symmetries.
