Abstract
Dictyophora indusiata and D. rubrovalvata exhibit distinct textural and sensory qualities, yet their chemotypes remain unresolved. Here, we integrated biochemical assays with metabolomics to compare caps and volvas across species. D. indusiata caps showed higher total phenolics (6.05 vs. 3.80 mg GAE/g DW), DPPH (2.45 vs. 0.74 μmol TE/g DW), and ABTS (4.85 vs. 3.15 μmol TE/g DW) than D. rubrovalvata caps. Volatile profiling suggested higher total volatiles in D. indusiata caps (339.2 vs. 160.6 μg/g FW), dominated by terpenoids, esters, ethers, and heterocyclics, whereas D. rubrovalvata caps had green-note C6 alcohols. Multivariate analyses suggest species-specific divergence in cap volatiles but relative conservation in volvas. Primary metabolites suggested contrasting carbon partitioning and organic acids between tissues and species. Collectively, these data define tissue-resolved chemotypes that provide a chemical basis for the predicted superior aroma complexity and in-vitro radical scavenging potential of D. indusiata caps, suggesting potential as high-value functional ingredients.
