Compound drop impacts on substrates of different temperatures
Abstract
In this paper, we report the impacts of isothermal compound drops for various combinations of viscous fluids. We extend an existing parameter-free model based on kinematic closure of drop impact to predict the maximum spreading diameter of both the core and the shell of compound drops. Then, we report impacts of compound drops on a cold surface. By using two liquids with different melting/freezing temperatures, it is possible to freeze either one of the two liquids or both and doing so, different patterns of frozen drops are obtained.
