Abstract
Three dimensional linkers are rare in MOF chemistry, as are linkers featuring inorganic elements. Here we report the synthesis and characterisation of a novel phosphorus-nitrogen (PN) cage-based tetra-benzoic acid (P4BA4) and its use for the synthesis of crystalline framework materials PNMOF-1 and PNHOF-1. These results expand the toolkit of 3-dimensional inorganic linkers beyond the current state of the art defined by carboranes and silsequioxanes.
