Les projections démographiques de l’Insee pourraient-elles biaiser les débats sur les retraites ?

Abstract

The French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) has published life expectancy, fertility and migration projections for the 2026–2070 period: this article focuses solely on life expectancy projections. These projections will shape the proposals put forward by the French Pensions Advisory Council (COR), the ensuing debates and, ultimately, decisions on pensions: if the projections are inaccurate, the ensuing debates and decisions will be skewed. This article outlines several issues which may therefore have consequences, particularly for the debates surrounding the forthcoming French presidential election.
