The contributions of agricultural equipment and digital technologies to sustainable crop protection

Abstract

The transition towards sustainable crop protection systems demands a fundamental, evidence-based transformation of current agricultural practices, underpinned by technological innovation and coordinated action across stakeholder communities. Agricultural equipment and digital technologies are expected to play a growing and significant role in this transition. However, these tools should not be regarded as off-the-shelf solutions, but as components of a broader and systemic transformation. This article highlights the key insights presented in this issue of Innovations Agronomiques, which gathers contributions from participants at the workshop held in November 2025 on "The contributions of agricultural equipment and digital technologies to sustainable crop protection" (Les apports des agroéquipements et des technologies numériques pour une protection durable des cultures). It aims to inform ongoing debates and to support stakeholder reflection involved in the design and implementation of sustainable crop protection strategies.
