A Note on the Failure of L^2 Boundedness in Self-Similar Navier-Stokes Constructions: Algorithmic Hallucination vs. Physical Reality
Abstract
The pursuit of finite-time singularities in the three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations represents a monumental challenge in modern mathematical fluid dynamics. Recently, an extensive manuscript generated by OpenAI titled "Finite Time Blowup for Navier-Stokes" was circulated, proposing an intricate resolution to Alternative (C) of the Millennium Prize problem. A fundamental criterion for such a candidate solution is the uniform boundedness of the global kinetic energy (the L^2 (IR^3 ) norm) up to the singular time. In this comprehensive note, we demonstrate a fatal topological obstruction inherent to this specific model. While the manuscript meticulously ensures that the kinetic energy of the collapsing inner core vanishes, we rigorously prove that the energy integral over the macroscopic exterior domain diverges to infinity as the singular time approaches. The strictly positive scaling parameter h>0, strategically chosen to guarantee L^3 blowup via the Prodi-Serrin criterion, inherently and unavoidably forces an infinite energy injection into the outer static tail. Consequently, the overarching claim of bounded global kinetic energy is mathematically invalid. We discuss how this failure highlights a broader epistemological issue: the danger of prioritizing localized algorithmic algebraic cancellation over global physical intuition.
