Abstract

Objective

to evaluate the usability and operational performance of the Subcutaneous Hydration Device prototype in a simulated scenario with nurses, as well as to gather input for its continuous refinement.Method

pre-experimental, qualitative, and quantitative usability study using a simulated scenario, semi-structured interview, and focus group. Conducted in a laboratory with nine participants with experience in subcutaneous therapy. A checklist was used as a guide for conducting the simulated scenario and evaluating the operational performance of the prototype, as well as a script for the interview and focus group. Thematic content analysis was applied. Results

varied perceptions of the prototype were revealed, identifying strengths and weaknesses. Most participants demonstrated satisfaction with the ease of handling and expressed confidence in its possible implementation in clinical practice. Improvements related to ergonomics and functionality were suggested, such as the inclusion of accessories to reinforce stability, in addition to identifying the home environment and adults/elderly people as possible contexts and beneficiaries of the Subcutaneous Hydration Device. Conclusion

the study showed satisfactory performance of the Subcutaneous Hydration Device prototype in a simulated scenario and generated positive satisfaction among nurses. The potential of the Subcutaneous Hydration Device to improve nursing care, especially at home, was highlighted.
