Abstract

We present a genome assembly of Carex echinata (Star Sedge; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Poales; Cyperaceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 378.73 megabases and 369.81 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (99.91%) was scaffolded into 29 chromosomal pseudomolecules. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome assembly has a length of 1637.33 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 179.09 kilobases. Gene annotation of the haplotype 1 assembly by Ensembl identified 27,157 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
