Abstract
Microbial U(vi) reduction plays a key role in the environment including potential deep geological repositories for high-level radioactive waste, as well as in bioremediation strategies for uranium-contaminated wastewater. HERFD-XRF mapping at the uranium M₄ edge was applied to thin sections of U-reducing bacterial cells enabling oxidation-state-sensitive, spatially resolved detection of uranium.
